Ever since college I’ve loved trying and sharing new things. It’s why I’m a power user on Instagram, why I started Hummingbirds and why I semi keep up my weekly “Friday Fives” on my blog. I get giddy sharing with whoever will listen what I’m loving, accomplishing, quitting, trying, struggling with and doing.
The past few years, I’ve had my head down raising my two and five year old and running Hummingbirds. Every once in a while I pop my head out of the dense forest of parenting and CEO-ing and get excited to plant flowers or organize my closet or train for a 5k or try making sourdough, but it’s not what it used to be nor is it what I want it to be.
As the kids get older and as I get out of the “weeds” of Hummingbirds because we have a magnificent team and predictable frameworks, I’m finding myself blossoming with creative energy and lately I haven’t been able to shake this idea of “the next thirty days.”
I imagine some of this energy is similar to Gretchen Rubin’s as she was thinking about The Happiness Project. Things are really great in my life, but where can I make improvements, what can I try, what projects can I actually get done that I’ve been thinking about for the last six months to six years, what things can I commit to that make me healthier, a better parent, a bolder leader… what brings me peace and joy and what are the curiosities I want to lean into?
Some of these things on my growing Notion list include:
No phone 1-2 hours before bed
Daily walking with a weighted vest (when I’m home)
Sending 30 pieces of snail mail
Cleaning out and organizing my garage
Drinking Calm every night for a full month
Organizing photos from the last five years
Using up or tossing pantry items that have sat for months (or years)
Journaling every single day with a specific framework
Donating clothes and books and toys and more
Sanding and staining my outdoor table & chairs
My intention on this journey of “The Next Thirty Days” are to share what I’m going to be doing the next 30 days and what I’m learning along the way. My initial plan is to do 1-3 net new things on my list. Some I would consider daily activities (walking), others might be a project I plan to get done (clean garage), others might be more regular but not daily (finishing a book).
And my hope is that you’ll do it with me. Or that it will spark your next 30 days of whatever you desire that you’ve been wondering about, procrastinating, dreaming of, or putting off.
I can’t wait to start this journey in this little corner of the internet either completely alone or alongside millions of others. I’m open to all the possibilities and I hope you are too. ✨
