What's Next - August 💪
July was such a positive month for me in so many ways. I invested in a wellness program that changed my relationship with food pretty meaningfully and I’ve become very curious about lifting heavy weights because of it. I also got rid of 750/1000 items I committed to, really took my voice and leadership to the next level by asking for what I wanted, delegating without apologies, and being more succinct. I have a ways to go to be a direct human, but I am so proud of the incremental improvements and I feel them in my core.
When I think back to June, I’m still benefiting from my commitment to daily magnesium and walking that I did nearly daily. It’s amazing to witness what 30 day commitments do beyond one month and how it’s bled into July…and now August.
As we shift into August, here’s what I’m doing the next thirty days:
I got rid of 750-ish items, but I committed to 1000 so I want to wrap up the last 250+ items! I have so much more to get rid of but this feels like a winter activity when I’m stuck inside during the worst months of the year.
Way more vegetables. Instead of taking away bad things like sugar, I’m going to focus on adding good things! I’m an enneagram 7 so withholding things from me never works well but adding more (hello gluttony) is a better way for me to be successful lol. I think it’s called “know theyself” right? My plan is to have my favorites stocked in the fridge at all times: brussels sprouts, brocolli, cauliflower, arugula, spinach, carrots and asparagus. I know I get to learn to like other vegetables but this is where we’re at for August.
As part of my gym & personal training experience I’m going to do two things moving forward — lift heavy weights a few times a week (thanks to this book inspiring me and my hair stylist who is all about progressive overload) and/or do incline 12, 3 mph walk for 30 minutes (thanks to a random Reel on Instagram). It’s easy, I’ve got a plan, and I’m just gonna do it.
Two home projects: I have the Fujifilm camera I love using and all these fun photos now so I got magnet tape and am going to get them all on the fridge! It’s a simple project and fun for Penelope to help me with! The other is one I keep dreaming about and… well, I’m 60% confident I can achieve it but I really want to tile my fireplace, with peel and stick tile FWIW, like this. I did ask a professional interior designer what she thought and she agreed it was a good idea so I at least know I’m not totally crazy.
Get a new piercing! I’ve been wanting to add another piercing to my ear for years but honestly when I had long hair you could never see my ears so what’s the point??? Now with a bob I’m very committed to I want a piercing at the top of my ear that with a good hair tuck will be fun and cutesy. The good news is, I can check this off my list (I wrote this late July) cause I did it today! See!
I think that’s a wrap for the month. I had a couple other things but it’s too much! With travels to/from Chicago, a roadtrip to Denver and school starting for sweet P, I want to be realistic while still aspiring.
The great thing about most of these is they really are me adopting a 1% better mindset & action plan. Adding vegetables isn’t hard when I know how to meal prep better, doing barbell exercises isn’t challenging when I have a consistent trainer I’ve seen, getting rid of 250 items isn’t tough when I’ve already done 750 quickly and painlessly.
I will say, I am planning to do a bit better documentation on the Insta & Substack for August. Hitting the goals is one thing, documenting the journey is another. Maybe that should have made the list — we’ll see.
Can’t wait to see what you’re up to in August, drop me a DM so I can hear how you’re creating your next best thirty days. ❤️
